Q3. Attempt any three questions. 3×10=30
i) Calculate the specific weight, mass density, specific volume, relative density of 1.5 litres of a liquid which weighs 5.5 N.
ii) A rectangular plate 4m long and 2m wide is immersed vertically in water in such a way that its 4m side is parallel to water surface. Find total Pressure and centre of pressure on plate when: (1) Its top surface is coinciding with free surface and (2) Its top surface is 1.5m below the free surface.
iii) The right limb of simple U-Tube manometer containing mercury is open to atmosphere while the left limb is connected to a pipe in which a fluid of specific gravity 0.85 is flowing. The centre of pipe is 15 cm below the level of mercury in the right limb. Find the pressure of fluid in pipe if difference of mercury level in two limbs is 25 cm.
iv) The rate of flow through pipe A-B is 500 litres per second. The diameter at end A is 20 cm and velocity at end B is 3 m/s. Determine the velocity at end A and Diameter of pipe at end B.
v) What is a reciprocating pump? Write down in detail about the main parts and working of single acting reciprocating pump along with neat sketch.
vi) Define head loss through pipe, explain its different types along with neat sketches for different pipe L-sections of pipes.
