Q3. The internal diameter of a hollow shaft is 3/5 of its external diameter. Compare its resistance to torsion with that of a solid shaft of the same weight, material and stresses induced.

Q4. A single plate clutch effective on both sides transmits 25kW at 300 RPM. Determine the external and internal radii of frictional surfaces if the ratio of radii is 1.25, coefficient of friction is 0.25 and the maximum pressure does not exceed 0.1N/mm2. Also determine axial thrust to be provided by springs. Assume uniform wear.

Also determine the centrifugal or hoop stress produced in the rim of flywheel if the peripheral velocity of flywheel is 15m/s. Take allowable shear stress for shaft and key material as 40N/mm2.
